RECRUITING STUDENTS FOR SUMMER PROJECTS
Urban Matters Lab is looking for Purdue Honors students to fill Research Assistant (RA) positions for Summer 2025. You also have to opportunity to continue to work on the research project in the Fall and Spring semesters for HONR credit and MUST use this project as your Scholarly Project for your Honors program.
Project Details:
- One student will work on the historical narrative for Morris School House. They will access TCHA archives, WLPL archives and other resources to get more information on this project. They will coordinate closely with the WL Archivist (Devon Roddel) and Ethan Fortner in the City of WL to collect all available information and develop a historical narrative under my guidance. The narrative will then be published on the lab website: https://urbanmatterslab.com/
- One student will work on the historical narrative for the Caretakers Cottage. They will access TCHA archives, WLPL archives and other resources to get more information on this project. They will coordinate closely with the WL Archivist (Devon Roddel) and Ethan Fortner in the City of WL to collect all available information and develop a historical narrative under my guidance. The narrative will then be published on the lab website: https://urbanmatterslab.com/
- One student will work on the historical narrative for the Louis Sullivan Bank building. They will access TCHA archives, WLPL archives and other resources to get more information on this project. They will coordinate closely with the WL Archivist (Devon Roddel) and Ethan Fortner in the City of WL to collect all available information and develop a historical narrative under my guidance. The narrative will then be published on the lab website: https://urbanmatterslab.com/
- Two students will work on the historical narratives of various sites related to Black Heritage Sites in the Greater Lafayette Area. They will access TCHA archives, WLPL archives and other resources to get more information on this project. They will coordinate closely with the local community to collect all available information and develop a historical narrative under my guidance. For Purdue in Indianapolis students ONLY:
5. We are looking for Purdue in Indy students to work with Dr. Krishna to produce a comprehensive StoryMap that will document the various Purdue-owned historic properties within the Indianapolis campus. Students will work on this project as their Scholarly Project in the summer of 2025 for paid work, and in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 as independent studies for HONR credit.
RA Details
Summer Stipend: $15 per hour, for 10 hours a week, for 10 weeks in Summer 2025.
Scholarly Project: This project will be your Scholarly Project for Honors.
Student Eligibility:
- An Honors student in good standing in the JMHC. No prior experience required.
- All applicants must have some background or interest in historical and/or archival research
- All applicants for Projects 1-4 must be available in person in the Greater Lafayette Area for the internship in summer of 2025
- All applicants for Project 5 in Indianapolis must be available in person in Indianapolis for the internship for summer of 2025.
- All RAs need to complete CITI training before starting the RA position
Beyond Summer: You will sign up for HONR Independent Study with me for Fall 2025 if you wish to continue working on these or other projects in the lab.
